In this brochure you will find selected examples of the Pilot Projects identified in Task 4.5 which are showcases for the good use of bioenergy. These good practices should be an inspiration for all who are seeking the installation of bioenergy solutions. The projects range from the use of solid or gaseous biomasses, energetic use of municipal waste to dissemination activities like bioenergy tourism and training centres. Partners from Norway, Poland, Germany, Latvia and Denmark provided information on these good practices, which were assembled by the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
For the rural regions biomass and bioenergy could be central affairs for the regional development. Effective use of biomass shows new agricultural perspectives and creates regional employment. The main aim of Work Package 4 (WP4) was to establish one or more sub-regions in each of the countries bordering the Baltic Sea, and develop these as “testing grounds” for policy as well as technical and market issues on sub-regional scale. In total 17 sub-regions were identified. Besides concrete work on local and sub-regional level to develop these “testing grounds”, exchange of knowledge and experiences between the sub-regions has been an important aim of the Work Package. WP4 has been led by the Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute, and in total 26 partners has contributed in the Work Package. This report provides short summaries of main objectives in each Task, plus key-findings and lessons learned. For some of the Tasks selected good examples is also presented. The report also provides the answers provided by the sub-regional partners regarding which are the most important key-findings and lessons learned of WP4 sub-regions, and how they will use the findings and results of WP4 sub-regions beyond the project lifetime.
The purpose with the report was to evaluate the development of the established RNPs. A questionnaire consisting of 12 different questions regarding the way the RNPs are organized, their goal and expectation, their funding, their target groups and the strategy used to disseminate information was answered by 11 of the partners. The results as well as the author’s reflections over them is shown in this report.
Final Report of Task 4.5 Pilot Projects: being one of the central works of Bioenergy Promotion, Task 4.5 is about the identification and description of Pilot Projects within the subregions. These projects range from the mere planning stage to the improvement of fully implemented ventures. This reflects the level of development of the bioenergy sector in the according subregions and gives valueable information about the regional market extension. The partners provided bioenergy assessments, the pilot projects themselves, prefeasibility studies and additional information for investors. The final report is a compilation of these outputs providing compact information about the subregions and general conclusions about the situation in the Baltic Sea Region. The Final Report was elaborated by BioenergieBeratung Bornim - B3 GmbH on behalf of the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
